Live mixed martial arts is going to the movies.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Tuesday announced a deal with NCM Fathom for high-definition live broadcasts of the UFC 111 card in more than 300 movie theaters on March 27. It's the first time an MMA card will be shown live in U.S. theaters, although boxing has a long history in cinemas going all the way back to the days of Jack Johnson near the turn of the 20th century.

Ticket costs depend on the specific venue, but a quick check on the NCM Fathom site of more than a dozen theaters across several states turned up prices ranging from $20 to $25, or roughly half the cost of a UFC pay-per-view ordered via cable or satellite provider in standard definition.

UFC 111's main event features welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre vs. Dan Hardy. Heavyweights Frank Mir and Shane Carwin will square off for an interim title belt in the co-main event.

Other UFC cards will be shown live over the course of the year-long deal with NCM Fathom, the companies said.
